I was never the biggest fan of The Silver Age..or The Golden Age, for that matter. I’m more of a child of comics from the mid-eighties forward. I got into comics around the time the medium ceased ending every sentence with an exclamation point, and - worth aside - I’m thankful for that. My preference for the more “adult” iteration of the form has absolutely zero impact on the astonishment your prolific penstrokes have induced at various points in my life. The characters you’ve had a hand in creating have carved craggy avenues of ponderance that crisscross my brain like spiderwebs. The vast majority of my imaginative abilities - the way I think, the pictures in my head - have no doubt sprung forth from adventures and dramas that first found being in your ink. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that, either, but there are others that I appreciate that owe you a debt of magnitude as well. Any artist engaging in sequential line work from 1936 forward is in part - by default and regardless of what they may think - paying you a great homage. You have an artistic convention named after you. You are the Grandfather of an art form.

The dude in the picture is Mr. Zack “Josh Wants To Penetrate Me Anally” Snyder, director of the upcoming Watchmen flick. For the, like, 5 people who may not know, he also directed 300 and Dawn of the Dead 2k4. Say what you will about the dude being Michael Bay Junior - doesn’t matter a toot. I still hella dig his movies (and now I hear that he’s “involved” in a SEMI-SEQUEL TO DAWN OF THE DEAD 2K4!? NNGGzOMGejaculate).
